From its foundation in 1974 to 2024: This year, Elkron has reached the significant milestone of its (first) fifty years of activity in the Italian security market. A market that, in recent decades, was partly shaped by this company from Turin, adding the results of what has been – and remains – the constant thread of its history: a strong and concrete propensity for technological innovation. An innovation that has seen Elkron progressively extend its activity to different market sectors, with technologies and solutions that have led families and businesses, ultimately, to live and work better.
A few “snapshots” of Elkron’s fifty years of activity are enough to understand how much the company has always maintained its ability to innovate. Elkron was founded in 1974, when the entire security technology sector was still taking its first steps in Italy. But already the following year, the company brought its microwave volumetric detectors to the market, with a revolutionary technological approach in the design of anti-intrusion systems.
In the following years, Elkron continued to improve microwave solutions, became one of the leaders in the development of detectors with two technologies (infrared and microwave) and registered several important patents – as many as 21, so far – for its market. Such as, among others, those for anti-fog infrared detectors, foam-protected outdoor sirens, optical keys, IR sensors with hemispherical Fresnel lenses.
Patents and technologies are fundamental, of course, but Elkron’s main value has always been in its ability to transform technological innovation into concrete benefits for its users. Anticipating, very often, the rest of the market thanks to the ability to catch its signals before the competition. Also from this point of view, there has been no shortage of significant steps in the company’s decades of activity.
Back in 1996, for example, while Italians were still getting acquainted with the mass Internet, Elkron was already launching an anti-intrusion system entirely remotely manageable via software from a remote PC. Then, in 2007 – well before the market really understood the needs of integration between different systems that users and installers expressed – Elkron presented its first integrated multifunction system, Elkron SIM 500.
Parallel to the technological development, Elkron also grew as a company. Over time, it has obtained the main, and today indispensable, certifications of quality – 14 marks so far – and of technological integration. Since the 1990s, it has expanded its official presence in the world with partnerships, commercial offices and affiliated companies (Elkron Tunisie, the first international subsidiary, was founded in 2001). This branch develops, strategically and at technology and product level, an integrated and transversal vision of safety, which today cannot but be combined with many once distinct worlds: video surveillance, remote control, safety, automation, home automation, smart building.
And that’s not all. This cross-cutting vision obviously includes – more and more, in fact – sustainability. Over the years, Elkron solutions have developed to better address the environmental impact of the environments and buildings they protect and control, in particular with home/building automation components that contribute to their energy savings.
Elkron has also embarked on its own sustainability journey, with the aim of drastically reducing its environmental footprint. This strategy includes, for example, the reinterpretation of all the packaging used in the packaging of products and, more generally, the implementation of more eco-sustainable ways of working throughout the company.
